On the Parametrization of Clapping

چکیده
For a Reactive Virtual Trainer(RVT), subtle timing and lifelikeness of motion is of primary importance. To allow for reactivity, movement adaptation, like a change of tempo, is necessary. In this paper we investigate the relation between movement tempo, its synchronization to verbal counting, time distribution, amplitude, and left-right symmetry of a clapping movement. We analyze motion capture data of two subjects performing a clapping exercise, both freely and timed by a metronome. Our findings are compared to existing gesture research and existing biomechanical models. We found that, for our subjects, verbal counting adheres to the phonological synchrony rule. A linear relationship between the movement path length and the tempo was found. The symmetry between the left and the right hand can be described by the biomechanical model of two coupled oscillators.

متن کاملThe Control Parametrization Enhancing Technique for Multi-Objective Optimal Control of HIV Dynamic
In this paper, a computational approach is adopted for solving a multi-objective optimal control problem (MOOCP) formulation of optimal drug scheduling in human immunodeficiency (HIV) virus infected by individuals. The MOOCP, which uses a mathematical model of HIV infection, has some incompatible objectives. The objectives are maximizing the survival time of patients, the level of D...
متن کاملRecognition of Hand Clapping Sounds - The Significance of Timbre in Steve
Although hand clapping is a ubiquitous activity all over the world, and employed in a wide variety of activities, it remains an understudied topic in the field of pattern recognition. In both traditional and modern music, hand clapping is used predominantly as a percussion instrument. This paper describes preliminary results of an ongoing research project to determine how to measure the similar...
متن کاملEmergence and stability of interlimb coordination patterns in children with developmental coordination disorder.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the emergence and stability of coordination patterns in children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) when performing a rhythmic interlimb coordination task on rigid (floor) and elastic (mini-trampoline) surfaces. Twelve typically developing (TD) children and 12 children with DCD were required to clap while jumping under different condition...

n audience expresses appreciation for a good performance by the strength and nature of its applause. The thunder of applause at the start often turns quite suddenly into synchronized clapping, and this synchronization can disappear and reappear several times during the applause. The phenomenon is a delightful expression of social self-organization that provides an example on a human scale of th...
